Bit of a question for you electric reel gurus out there. Anyone tried out or owned both the Daiwa tanacom bull 1000 or a megatwin (the slighter bigger slightly more expensive 2 speed Daiwa)?

Just interested to know what people think of the 2 compared to one another. The 1000 seems to be the stock in trade for many so is obviously a good reel, but it's hard to know what the megatwin is like...

Appreciate any thoughts you might have. Cheers

Have you looked at the Shimano Beastmaster 9000

They have,
-More Drag
-Larger capacity
-More Power
Narrower reel make it less combersome to use.

Ive used the Tanacom 1000 and Shimano Beastmaster 9000, and found the BM much easier to use.

I bought the megatwin had it carbontexed and havent looked back. Has done a great job on catchin a lot of good puka and bluenose without missing a beat. I cant comment on the bull cos i havent used a 1000...but i have got a 500 bull and its hauled in multiple headers of puka on a jigging master powerspell rod just fine. The megatwin is my goto big setup tho.

So is the Sea borg worth an extra $500 over the Tanacom bull?

I like it and ive caught a lot of good fish on it but to be fair to the tanacom ive never used the 1000 so i cant say if its worth the extra $. I got mine after talking to a local gentleman that services and sells them in welly and he recommended the MT over the 1000...and given he hasnt put me wrong on lots of other gear i followed his advice.

Thought I'd do a follow up to this post. I've done extensive trialling of both the mega twin and the tanacom bull 1000. Both are v good reels and are pretty hardy. Both handle the work well. The bull is a slightly faster and quieter retrieve but the mega twin is handy with its low gear for hard heavy fighting fish. Key thing to remember is neither are winches and u still have to fight the fish on the rod. I've managed 88kg in one drop (multi big puka) on the mega twin no problems and its caught a few big chunky bns too. The bull has accounted for a few nice bass and a pile of sub 15kg bns. I've squeezed 1000m of 80lb on both. So far I think the bull represents the best value for money. However i suspect the megatwin might last longer due to its internals being a bit more solid and w more bearings. Daiwa have provided great backup to me when I found a fault in a cable. Cheers!
