Does anybody know what the top brace that goes around the rod and connects to the top luggs on the reel is for?
Was it designed for the older rods to stop the rod breaking at the reel seat? Or is it to support the reel and stop it bending/breaking at the seat? Is it ok to run them without it?
All the rods I have bar one are to fat above the reel seat and wont allow the brace to fit. The one I can fit a brace to is a two piece and if I add the brace it locks in above the rod join so I cant seperate the two piece.
Many thanks.

Hey Krow
The turnbuckle rod braces are for transfering load from the top harness lugs down onto the rod blank, therefore taking a lot of load from the reel clamp base plate, IMHO I do not think they are really needed unless you are using sunset drag often or are concerned about the security of the reel seat clamp, just make sure the tapered collars lock up fully on the reel seat and the lower clamp plate is secure and I think all will be fine, I have run plenty without the turnbuckles with no problems, cheers steve

Thumbs Up Thanks.
We like sunset but I'm sure we can struggle along without it.

I've got those clamps for my Duels but don't put them on - sunset on stand-up, particularly on 37 Kg isn't my idea of fun for a 75KG angler!!
