they are a pest if in the waterways.... so cant see why not...
i would mix em up with some pig or salmon pellets or catch a few kahawai or jackmac's...
dont like the mess tuna oil leaves around the place, so dont use that....

Thanks for everything you did for us Eric. may you rest in peace, You were one of the real legends of NZ recreational fishing

Yep .... you are encouraged to kill them & do not see any reason you
cannot take them home for burley .... the Hamilton bowhunters do after
their organised annual hunt.

Only thing is do not leave them lying close to any freshwater waterway
or worse still clean them there or throw guts in water as there is a chance
they could spill or contain eggs.

Good luck

PS anyone that ants to try it suggest you get in touch with the Waikato bowhunters
as I understand they give it away after their hunt & might have some left frozen.

Forget the excact figure but seem to remember they bagged something like 6 or 7
tonnes on their most successful hunt .... have to arrange to collect it tho.
When you cry, feel pain or sadness, no one notices your sorrow .... BUT

Yes you can take koi carp home and use them for bait or berley, it is only illegal to transport live koi. I often use koi carp berley and find it very good for kahawai and snapper. It is a very oily fish and leaves a big slick on the surface. It makes good bait too.
