Beautiful flat calm day ,the Penquin and I couldn't pass up .Decided that the reef and pins on the southeastern end of Red were the go so massive burley trail and big baits .Lots and lots of 27 -29 cm snapper came om board and went back over the side ,we kept 15 30-32 cm ones but nothing big troubled us .Decided to pull the pin after 3-4 hours and head round the other side of Red .Found big schools of Skippy in closer to Red and puuled two on board ,they imediately spewed up heaps of whitebait ,no wonder we couldn't catch any more the buggers were full already .Round the Richards side of Red ,behind Double and Stanley there were acres of birds mainly gulls and the sounder was a solid mass of baitfish (turned out to be whitebait )with heaps of big Kahawai on the surface with  thier mouths open gulping them down .Tried softbaiting under them but only came up with a nice Dory .Seemed to be lots of Leatherjackets down there and even though you kept the bait moving they still managed to destroy them Getting a new livebait tank setup made for the boat so didn't have any liveys on board but with all that whitebait and Kahawai I'm betting there would be heaps of kingies around

Tobez called us up and gave us a nice fat kingie (thanks Tobez think you must have enough stevebuys points now for free lightbulbs for life)so with the three maomao that decided to commit suicide for us ,everyone round us has had a feed of fresh fish and my freezer is ready to be raided by the daughter next time she comes down from Aucks .haven't seen some much whitebait in the ocean for ever must be a good sign ,other than making fish hard to catch as they are so full .Can you tow a whitebait net behind the boatLOL
I step out my door to paradise on earth
