This is a great forum!
Bit light on the ATN end of the harbour so really enjoying the info re the 'northern end' of the harbour.
I reckon this summer is gonna be a great season.
KY battered fillets are nice bugger fodder by the way.
Cheers

Out today but didn't do well fish wise.  A couple of pannies was about it.  The whales playing about inside Karewa made the day worthwhile.  I haven't seen them in that close before. They were in about 70 ft of water.

I totally agree CN
So many people fish the Athenree end but little said (that’s good though).
November mid week on the right tides will produce some nice spawning fish. Well up the harbour in the little channels. Then end of jan - May will be a banger.

Where do you buy them? I only ever see squid and pilchards, but then I buy bait from the petrol station!

Had a good day out landbased fishing at the back of Motiti last weekend. Bought home 20 nice eaters between 5 of us and put back 2 snapper around 650-700mm. Exciting going down the Kaituna at 5.30am in the fog. Bit of a worry when we didn’t see a kawhai all day though

Anyone seen or caught any kingies in the harbour lately? I have been live baiting for the last few trips but with no luck yet. Is it still a bit early?

no no a hundred  at the right tide, at the right time of year, at the right time of day, at the right time of month ,  i would say the chances of a fish  are quite high , its a small boat or kayak  spot in  quite the shallows  not a panny spot at all, and you have to be ready for the pick up ,    and best to fish with gear to target the 15 , 17 , + lb er
