New smashed banana Black magic snapper snack rig, using 30m + long trace in 8-10m of water. Bonito or Squid bait.

Went into the harbour yesterday from lunch til 7:30pm. Not a single bite. I tried a few spots but nothing. A rat kingy showed up lazily in the berley trail but couldn't be convinced on bait, lure or jig. Stunning day though.

Hard fishing in Bowentown end over night of 23rd.
Plenty of berley and all kinds of stray lined and droppered baits from 2100 to 0200 on the channel edge for nil bites. A couple of hours sleep and a shift to another bank and a short 1 hour pre dawn bite from 5.30 to 6.30 gave me a half decent snapper and trevally to feed us and 5 small kahawai for the smoker - perfect smoking size.

Merry Christmas to all. And peace to all mankind. Please.

Every chance of a huge haul !

Only one possible problem tho.

It is likely to comprise 100% sea lettuce.

Didn't see much sea lettuce in the harbour last night. One small piece caught on the line.

went out today. got 3 snapper by 'A bouy" by 8am, betwween 12-18 metres water. then nothing all day till we come home at 2pm. tried by tay street too
was going to go out wide but a 2 metre swell made me hold back. thought wind would pick up and didnt want 2 metre swell with wind chop. swell died as forecast.
snappoer between 33cm and 38cm.. all caught on orange slider lure.  1 nice kahawai on strayline

I was in the harbour yesterday by the container wharf on the incoming. The sea lettuce was ridiculous. I had to move. I couldn't put a line in for 30 seconds without snagging a load. I moved close to the entrance and got a few kahawai in the strong current. Horribly choppy in the afternoon with wind against tide.

We fished bowentown harbour two nights ago. No lettuce and 14 good sized snapper. Some of them had slightly white flesh but not real bad.

Hit the water this morning at 6.15 and headed straight to Penguin. Easterly swell with a bit of wind on top so a sloppy ride. Put lures in the water and trolled out a bit then to the inside of Mayor. Water temp never got over 19.6 degrees. No life whatsoever.
Went into the sheltered side of Major and picked up two limits of pannie snapper plus four reasonable trevs. Hooked bloody sharks three times and lost what felt like the best snap of the day to another one of the mongrels. Bit of a crappy ride home but still a good day.
