Just been up the coast, first Crack at squid fishing. Caught these in an hour and lost a couple more at the rocks. Green was the colour but it was the only one I tried, pretty stoked for first time.

That'll rip a few peoples undies!
Great result for a first timer, you're now spoilt forever LOL
Lotsa people don't have an hours squidding like that even when experienced.
Were you cast and retrieving or using a float? My son fishes with a float and does pretty well, I cast and retrieve and catch a few more than him, but I also lose many more jigs than him.
Good effort, lotsa recipes out there. My 20c worth: make sure the hotplate/pan is smoking hot, 1 minute is plenty of cooking time, and don't go nuts with flavourings.
Good onya.

Lucky, went out yesterday from 5-8 with nothing except a nice cold. Calculated that the amount of time spent squid fishing and catch rate = 1 squid per 10-12 hours. Lovely.

Went for a mission out of the boat! caught my PB of 1.25kg and we caught a good feed all just on dark with the bite slowing down after dark!
Best colours were orange with rainbow under body, dark browns and purple jigs in 3.0 size!

Daniel 10 out 0f 10 for persistence
I was having the same sort of results with soft baiting...read all he mags, listened to instructions, even went out and took out a couple soft baiters....and very hit in miss.
Then recently went out with a very long term accomplished fisherman....told me what to do.. me one side of the boat him the other.. and he was getting hit.. I said "stuff this" pulled my line in , went over to his side and he talked what was in his head, sec by second what was happening/ doing... and I just listened.
There was a point where he said.. "see he hit?"  no I didnt... told me exactly what I should be looking at and again happened .. penny dropped...
Continued to watch listen, couple questions...
Then back to my side... bang on the drop.. hit and caught... all I could say was.. "I didnt catch that one, he caught himself" a nice 40....  but next few casts....saw the hits  and caught the rest...

It really sound that this is the sort of thing that u need.. not the 'books'.

Is that small one an arrow squid? Haven't caught one of those yet.

You're definitely right Steps.
The first couple of times we went out, we didn't take the tides, the moon, the water clarity and all that into consideration. Just winged it really. Next couple of times, I asked the boys at Yeehaa and they told me 2 hours before and after high, water clarity, weedbeds, etc. It improved our catch rates for sure, but it was still pretty hard going. I'd love to be able to learn from someone like you did, but its pretty hard going at the wharf and the Yacht club. Hope I run into a pro one day who'll show me the ropes!

Yep I think it is an arrow, hopefully turn it in to a big snapper tomorrow. The rest are hitting the pan tonight. I was just casting out and retrieving, saw a couple in my light and hooked 3 in 3 casts, bloody good fun. Might try some daytime stuff off the rocks tomorrow
