Did the ol' 3am start and headed to Tauranga with Sharkslayer where we met up with Cartoonz and Tom.
We haded out to Mayor on flat calm seas, seas that looked a nice shade of 'pea-soup green' until about a kay from the island, at which point the colour changed to a nice shade of 'watered-down pea-soup green'.
Aaaaaaaaanyway, first stop was Tahua which was nice, there was a school of copper moki stacked up on a wall plodding into the never ending treadmill of a west-east current. 20 metres further out from the wall over the deeper water was the mother of all pinkie schools, underneath was the mother of all splendid perch schools. Down deep were a couple of reasonable snapper.
Clouds of maomao, sweep and demmoiselles rounded out the most prevalent fish there, with the odd kingy cruising through, along with groups of koheru.
Shooting a koheru brought the kingies in, and sharkslayer and I had a pet for a few minutes, which we fed for a while, neither of us had the heart to shoot it, he said hung aroud for half an hour more after I left.
Tom got a pretty nice kingy, 'toonz got crays and we all got pinks. I shot and lost two splendids which were on back order for one of the scientists, on a - 'if you see any can you shoot them?' kind of thing.
I gave up after two.
I never realised how big the area is, it would be good to explore it on a clear day, but with 10 metres viz it was hard to get a real idea of the terrain.
The kina boys were doing their thing a coupla hundred metres away so I went over and had a yarn with them for a bit.
After that we headed in to the island, I scared two snapper and shot one, sharkslayer got one too, toonz pulled another cray and Toms piece of coast was bare.
Off to the Turkey spot which was a nice place, but pretty large and spread out, my ears gummed up after 1/2 an hour so I jumped back on the boat and got dressed before I even saw a tik, Tom eventually found them and opened up. He got 7 and a trev, the biggest was 1.25kg.

Oh yeah, one other thing...

Ahh, there's your problem. Excessive horizontal diver/ballast displacement quotient.

Nice one Herb... it certainly was hard going without a weight belt. I have been carrying a spare in my boat for the last10 years and decided to take it out last month, as I never leave my weight belt behind!! That just had to happen right?

Tom with a nice rack of big turkies.

Me, still gutted about weight belt trying to find turkies. And a piss poor effort to boot. Next time.

Still, I managed a couple of decent crays. Note the bulge in wetsuit where I had to stow rocks and lead to try and get down...Jesus.

Herb found this plate. He was so excited. He thought it might have been from a sunken treasure boat. When we cleaned it up we found a Whare House stamp, made in China. Take that Herb!

They don't have 3 man or 6 man teams in the MBO, so I'm guessing no one? Certainly not you Qaz! Bluefins are like the Roman Empire, weakened by debauchery and excess. Mercury Bay has a moderately good record in comps over the last 15 years or so, except for the ones they don't attend I guess
