Well, me and my fiancees bro managed to get out for a few hours today ( he needed the fresh air!)

arrived around 12.30, and started chucking in my home brewed burley (oats, bread, mashed up sanma and sea water, ladeled out) and a bomb.

immediately a pod of 4 dolphins turned up, about 5m from the rock....played around for a good 30 mins, swimming back and forth....awesome to see them so close.

they finally went, and 1000s of baitfish turned up - all good signs for me burley!

Frankie was 1st up with a reasonable KY....followed by a stinky eel!

I was working hard to keep the berley going and hadnt noticed anything on my rod....spebt 10 mins watching it....bends over and im in....reel to sent hook and immediately it starts taking line....ended up with a good snap just shy of 5lbs

frank had a few screeching runs but both reefed him......i caught summin I had no idea what it was (maybe Stargazer? can you eat em??)

was a fat soft ugly bugger! gut hooked, but think we got him back to the sea OK....all in all a great day out!

dolphins, eels, snaps, KY and a weird fish....cant ask for more than that!

some pics:

Nice one Cal, i was round by the island to start with off Mahurangi, a few asian guys came out there aswell and looked like they got a couple but couldn't be bothered with the snags and wind (couldn't stray line) so went back and fished off the rocks on the left hand side of the beach, caught two snapper mid 30 and mid 40 so a good feed, plenty of bites small snapper of jack macs probably, threw in some bait and had jack macs and piper at my feet really should have put out a livie but it was getting a little dark, definately the chance of a jd or two, still a nice day out Big smile
