Lake Rotorua's surface water temperature is stable at 18.8 degrees C today. Algae levels have dropped from 4.4 to 2.1 between 6am and 11am this morning, though what this means is that the sown-wind side of the lake will have a much higher algae level than the up-wind side. At 6am the wind was slightly east of North at 11.5kph but has since moved to ENE at 27.0kph. Humidity has dropped one point to 85% since 6am. Barometric pressure has risen 0.04 of a point to 1024.8hPa and there has been 2.24mm of rain this morning. We areexpecting a high of 22 degrees C by 3pm this afternoon and showers for the rest of the day. Tomorrow's outlook is for showers and 22 degrees C. The moon is almost half and rising late in the evening.
Lake Rotoiti's surface water temperature remains under 20 degrees C throughout the day and is getting as low as 18.3 degrees C early morning.
The rain that came overnight and continued throughout the morning is very likely to have brought plenty of fish into the streams entering Lake Rotorua, particularly the Ngongotaha and Waiteti streams
Other areas to benefit from the rain could be the main beach and the log pool stream at lake Okataina, Ruato Bay, Hauparu Bay, the Dump and possibly the Pipe on Lake Rotoiti. Te Wairoa and the Landing may also fish ok for a few days. Stoney Point is another area that may fish well as it is at the boat ramp there that trout are liberated. The stream at Boye's Beach on Lake Okareka may also be worth a cast or two.
