Keen to get out somewhere on the peninsula Saturday. Perhaps Little Akaloa sea conditions permitting. Any takers?

How'd you get on Grant?

I'm contemplating a trip up Kaikoura way this week, weather looking good Weds - Fri. Thought I'd stay at the DOC site at Okiwi Bay and do a bit of wandering north of the peninsula. Give us a yell if you're free and keen, its always more fun with a bit of company.

Ok. We won't go to Jackson other than to catch up with our mate there, maybe Sunday afternoon. They get slips 1k from road end but should be clear by then. White challenger 0274807909

Thanks Al, It'll be another epic adventure I'm sure. I sent you & Thomas a pm coz i thought you might like to join us, but didn't hear back. If we head a further 7.5 ks out from Open Bay Islands we'll hopefully come across the drop off from 35m to 100-160 The weather should suit such a paddle.

viking profish 400 is a good kayak to start, paddlerzone is a good place to look at, if you know what you want already there may be cheaper ways to get one, but you wont get something rubbish from there.

the rod i use 95% of the time is a shimano tekota 600 mounted on a backbone elite 200gr jig rod. cost a bit but its great to use. could save a few dollars by swapping the backbone down to a aqua tip or similar, h&f do combos with the tekota and maybe a 6' raider rod for $260 to $299. there are plenty of other options, just depends what your budget is.
