Heading up to Napier for a week with the family. Any good shore spots around town for casting a few softbaits for KYs.
I reject your reality and substitute my own

Hi Aharvnz,

I've done a bit off the shore round the Napier area. You can try the wharves round the Iron Pot which is at Ahuriri or off the beach at the "Beacons". There's also plenty of spots further round by Bayview and Whirinaki - Gurnard, KY's, Lemons etc.

Good luck.

Hi mate, there's excellent KY fishing around the rivermouths at Haumoana, Clive, and the Esk mouth. The best time is at high tide, and two or three hours either side.

Soft plastics work well, but you'll get a longer cast and just as many KY (although not much else) with metal jigs, hex spinners etc.

As Timo has said, the iron pot is also a good area to try- I'd go right out to perfume point and flick softies into the harbour mouth. There's also the odd king lurking around here, and at the rivermouths, so don't be afraid to beef your gear up or send out a wriggling livie.

Ahab,

That's good to hear there's still a few KY's at the mouths. Commercial boys give it a hammering round there.

Last time I fished the Bay the Bayview locals were carving it up on the longlines too.

Get a surf caster and try Whiranaki in front of the toilet block! Catching mint Kys there on Tues/Weds in the morning on low tides. Pilchids and anchovies worked a treat
