Was lots of debris and trees and stuff floating around off bays this arvo, I guess from weekends rain I missed while in Wellington. So I paddled bit further out today in vain attempt to score a gurnard or two but all I found were lots of snapper. Brought home three between 35 and 48cm.

Bigger snapper spat out a very small John Dory on landing. I think it was what hook embedded in and was stuck in fishes throat. Never seen such a small was about 5cm JD before. Couldn't catch any decent livies/ yelllowtail (other than smaller kahawai) to target a larger JD, nor could I find the gurnard.

So was slightly boring just catching snapper all arvo. Still shouldn't complain as have six nice snapper fillets in fridge. And just enjoyed a nice roast dinner and still enjoying a bottle of Barosa Valley shiraz.

Not a bad problem to have Shane!

I have managed to get tomorrow off, looks like 10 knots of W/SW all day.

Will probably head north.

Anyone else keen to tag along?

It make take a few more days for all the debris to clear, although Ive had surprisingly good results in mucky water. Big paddle tail new penny z mans were working for me then... I had a look at my local on Sunday and it was a churned out washing machine from hell on the South side of the peninsula. Northern side was mint, but being a spring low and with a "big" swell running made it the first day in about two years that I've turned tail and headed home instead. Sundays' my window again, hope the weather plays ball....

It was ok. Launched at Leigh. Got 5 snaps to about 50cm. Nice day for a paddle. No livies or squid to be found so couldn’t try for a king. Best snaps north of reef in 39-42m on the incoming. It was so still I was able to use a 3/8oz jig head in that depth.

There was a bit of sign in 8-12m but I couldn’t tempt them. I launched quite late it may have been good pre dawn.

Sounds like a character building day Dan, rouge dumper wave at the Bay aye. Nasty little drop of I used to like doing somersaults into water off beach there as a kid seems to produce more than unexpected wave there if there is any sort of swell rolling across or around outer reef reef and odd one sucking into bay itself
Interesting kings are up that way now. Might need to take a look little further north sometime.
Quite keen get boat out actually up north and see if can see some of blue whales recently encountered up there.

Those gurnards would be there off BBay and would been calm enough out there this morning too. But yeah not so good round here after lots of rain and can shut down the fishing more than further north... just too much silty run off. Should be starting to clear up a wee bit though now from when I was out Wednesday.
I'm hanging curtains tomorrow so not sure if will get out.

Interesting reports, mixed bags and results.
I launched at 12.30 for grunters and paddled our in flat calm.
Set up and 15 mins later first good one in the back.
Rod starts bending, another having a go....... then a phone call. Boy having allergy attack so I had to rush in. Ambo had come and gone by time I got home. Medicine worked.
Fish 1, boys still 2. Lucky.
Reackon few grunters out there.
