Let me take the opportunity to ask you something if you don't mind. Do you tie your main line directly to the trace line or use a swivel? I'm using a swivel, is that right?

Nice work, Muppet. I thought you traditionally give the snapper the month off this time of year, nail the kingies instead?
But you've obviously got the snapper mojo, that's a brilliant session.
Are you still using the ball sinker and worm hook rig with the softies?

Haha, I know what you mean about the casting re dragging, mate. One reason I can't get interested in kabura fishing.

I normally fish a different type of shoreline to what you head to - because in our area that kind of rocky coast you frequent with kingies and big snapper isn't around - but I generally fish in 10-12m, and it's fun watching the line to see the takes before anything registers on the rod tip. I still miss a few during the first part of the retrieve though, after the first couple of lifts and drop backs, come up solid on the next lift but often too late.

Nice work Dan. I had a shocker, only had about 2 hours spare so shot out locally first thing Sun morning, no birds, not much on the sounder and nothing on the end of my line! Only bite I got was just before I headed in, one large yank that bit me off.
Shoulda gone round to South Side I think.

I got a bit of evening fishing yesterday at Eastern Beach into dusk on the incoming tide. Was slow on the rod and reel with a few undersize Snapper returned. With limited time and light I only checked the longline twice. First pass most bait taken. Second pass nearing 8.30pm got a mid-30's Snapper, a Kahawai and a Hammerhead Shark which I cut free at the trace alongside kayak. The shark was quite placid which was a relief. With the wind getting up I headed back to shore for just before 9pm.

Hey fellas, keen to drag my Ol Prowler out for a fish this weekend as I'm giving the inlaws a hand renovating their bach up Mahu West.
I haven't kayak fished for a while, and was wondering if you guys on the SB's and micros drift with a drogue? I think I had a small yellow Youvella one a few years ago but have no idea where that is.... Any brands or size and any tips on where to purchase one?
Cheers!

I quite often use one, if anything it helps to keep me straight in a breeze. My yak has a pretty flat bottom though and drifts pretty quick in barely any breeze.
I think it was just a cheap small one from Smart Marine or Burnsco, somewhere like that, they all sell Kayak sized drogues. If you put a little float at the end it makes it a little easier to pull in, but not critical. I assume you already have a running rig setup on the Prowler?
