Dan as someone who barely casts a 100 m with sinker and 50m with a floating bait, I’ll definitely take opportunity to fish 200m in yak.
Straylining for snaps way better, and while not wide enough for gurnard opens up other possibilities like John Dory with livies.

paddle round the corner going south from Leigh wharf and stay within 200m you’d slaughter the snaps early morning.

Hey Muppet love the combo..where did you get the handle from.?
I recently scored a mint 6501-c3 off trademe and would be keen on a similar upgrade.
Cheers

I'll be heading out mid morning tomorrow for a dirty straylining session literally tied off a 200m buoy off a local beach. Heavily utilizing the benefits of a giant fiberglass kayak Evil Smile

Looking good out there this morning off bays with lot of yaks out, most not too far out. 3 drones fishing off beach as well when went for my late morning walk. Heard one successful report from dad and son out in yaks this morning. Will most likely have a crack tomorrow.

probably be good if wind stays down and tide on way out now so potentially wind and tide together down to low.  My wife unfortunately has other plans for me this arvo.

Me & a mate did Narrowneck today, bloody fiasco for me. FF went into simulation mode, same twat forgot to connect their transducer in (wasn’t me haha) I was originally setup for micros sliders & softies, with just 1 strayline rod…. Fluffed around for ages, then gave up, tried for a drift, feckin drogue getting tangled, gear problems, gave up again, losing lots of time... nearly 2hrs
Caught up with my mate, he reconnected the transducer cable…yay FF working, I thought it may have been faulty…. He gave me fresh bait & a salmon berley, ended up with 6 snaps to 42cm…. but I lost a lot of time.
If you are not familiar with NN, it drops off 3-4hrs after sunrise most times, so lucky to get a feed
Few other yakkers out there, plus the cop boat rounding up those gone out too far… saw a yakker out at no7 thats 2km off shore, plus 2 launches & 2 jetskies between browns isl & bean rock lighthouse hooning it back in…
Good day out on the water after lockdown

Got a couple of nice pannies off Arkles. Lots of small kahawai around so used a couple for strip baits. Solid fish, probably late 40's. I'll measure tomorrow before I fillet.

I started my level3 fishing at local, Eastern Beach yesterday afternoon. Never thought how far I live from it, turns out less than 5km. Figured it was worth knowing as it's a popular beach and some residents or visitors may have asked and I didn't want to get into any debates or confrontations. Anyway, arrived and managed to get one of the few car parks remaining and saw beautiful flat conditions, normally the sort that would see me head further out then normal. But no, level 3 test run here.. Out to the 200m buoy line ( thereabouts, it's hard to judge these things isn't it 😉). It was only several metres deep! Long line deployed and I was getting bites before I even got the whole thing set. Two Snapper, one underside returned, one more thirties kept. And this was just before bite time. Turns out that would be it. On the out going tide I decided to try around the now exposed reef but nothing on the rods or hand line for me there. Birds were circling between the reef and Musik Point but too far for a paddle. Saw one motor boat only... Coast Guard patrol. With the breeze picking up, I returned and packed up the long line and headed to shore to face the long haul up the beach as the tide was still far from coming in. Great to sit out there in the sunshine and at least was a good check on my gear after not fishing before lockdown.
