Well done - A 23kg one would put up a bit of a fight

yeah, they have a good first run back at their snag then they just use their weight to pull ya round.
they get a big mouth on them too, a 20kg one will take down a whole duck no problem!

Caught recently in the Firth along with huge Kermadec KY and a few easy ol Snapper as well

This is half the catch as had already dropped some off to neighbours, all caught on 3000 Saros Sb gear 6lb line from Seakayak within 200 mtrs of Ponui, Scullys reef

Yeah after the "now what do I do" ,I realised I could push the foot rest thingy right foward,flip him up side down an stick him down there with my leg on top to hold him in.

My 2 biggest snapper yesterday were 10.6-something and 11.5-something kg; out with Northland Kayak Fishing Club on the May club day at Bland Bay.
 
 
Softbaits, 1/2oz Nitro jigheads on 1/0 hooks; gear Citica baitcaster on Catana 732 rod; Tufline el cheapo 10lb braid, 7-turn spider hitch to double, then Albright knot to 30lb Black magic leader.  5" Gulp! jerkshads, various colours, mainly BBQ Chicken.

Nice Esox Lucius there flygimp, I have a fond memory of losing a monster on a roach livebait when I was 15 got him right on the bank but my net wasn't big enough and my mates refused flat to get in with him. An absolute beast above 30lb easy and you know how scary and mean they are.LOL
 
Gonna throw flies off my yak on the briny soon, should be fun.
