Cheers for that. Its the wind which usually causes me to fish heavier weights.

the key is to slow the boat right down   cast as far ahead as possible    you will still end up with you sp about 40-50 m behind the boat untill you reach the bottom   so the lightest braid possible and keep feeding out line   I do not use an eggbeater as this will make it a lot more difficult  and use the cicle chape softbaits as they need a minimum of movement to get working   my experience tels me to use glow SP's for the deeper stuff     and sorry no picks of the 18Lbs ( found out the hard way the camera was not water proof)

I agree with otter I always catch ahead and by the time it hits the bottom its usually in a good postion when drifting.

As for the deep last winter in 40 to 50 metres there were times where we didn't do to well compared to the summer. So it slows down out there too.The person who posts said that their metabolism slows down is spot on. And I think the bite time drops too.
In winter I find out deep that the snapper suck the baits alot more and are not as agressive.
Lately ive been going up to wellington reef and doing really well just drifting with softies. So don't underestimate the shallow spots. Usually dawn or dusk are the primo times for the shallows. And like the other guys say use burly and patience.

Cheers
