Nice one 14ft.
Was tough down east. There was literally about 20 cars when I arrived. I fished with Newbie and it was very slow but I ended up with 4 pannies and a John Dory and a Porae which is a first for me.

Noponies had a beaut 66cm fish on the beach and Slater had a nice one around 60cm too. Not sure how everybody else went.

Shot out from Fraser cove this morning fished around the mangroves. Was strange we could hear you guys quite clearly on the radio from all the way down there. Good fishing for me today got a few early so could be selective, slowed up over high tide then picked up again after the tide started flowing again.

Kept 7 gave one to the old man. The 6 at home between 64and 49cms.

Mint day, fishing was slow to start with for me, along with a few encounters with the reef.

Didn't really pick up until I changed to a dark brown trigger-x Shocked softy I had in the bottom of my gulp tub. Fish on straight away after that. One of the fish I brought up had a long tentacle or something like a tentacle sticking out its mouth, greedy sod. But, it was the same colour as the trigger-x I had on.

Fish slowly got bigger, with a few low 30's a 40's and a 66cm one literally on my last cast. Managed a few leather jackets as well, which is a first.

I thought I heard you on the radio DT, what radio do you have? That's great range.

Great catches guys. My VHF is 100 watt so could easily hear you Dt.

CB I've seen a few caught over the years on softies.

How are they for eating?

I found this on Sandfords site

Porae is sometimes described as Snapper’s poor cousin. Caught on the sand near reef structure the Porae is actually related to the Tarakihi. It eats somewhere in the middle between Snapper and Tarakihi which can only be a good thing. Interestingly enough, Porae are a very fast growing fish, reaching up to 28 cm in length in just a single year, however these delicious eating fish can reach up to 30 years of age.

I had a quiet morning off Karewa.....the less said the better. Awesome effort for inner harbour dt, was that on anchor and bait? Some solid fish for up in the mangroves.
TAS - Its a real disease

That Porae will be nicer than the harbour Porae fish. They taste OK, if you take out the dark bits of meat, but don't whatever you do, cut into the gut, it will taint the fillets badly. Use to net them in the harbour, before the weed got too bad.
