Forecast is rubbish this weekend for the 800 comp. I say we hold off for better conditions.

Yeah, 20kts SE on Sat according to Metservice and 15kts SE on Sunday. Not nice at all.

With the next two weekends being out, with Naki comp and then Easter its likely to be early April. Fishing will still be goodSmile

I wasn't that keen, was too windy for drifting in the channel.

If the swell doesn't come to much, Sunday looks pretty good for a fish. Light winds. Heres hoping its a Mount 1 day wonder swell Thumbs Up

Sounds like the weather isn't co operating today down there. Fishing called off the for the day. Looks better for tomorrow.

I'm going to load up, and make the call in the morning. Wind looks like it won't be an issue, just depends on waves, which look smallish on the surf cams. If I go, I'll prob be on the water around 7am.

Slipped out this morning around 8:30am. Fairly decent swell of 2-3 feet, but I got out with no worries, just a bit of water over the bow.

Out to 12m and straight into them. Strong SE drift of around 2kmhr, which made things a bit more difficult. Heavier jig heads got me down and into a steady stream of fish. Wind was out of the SSE, fresh to start, but it buggered off.

Ended up with 6 mid 30's pannies. Few throwbacks. Plenty of tail chompers about. Few big workups as well, but I didn't chase those.

Getting in was interesting, the swell was bigger, good 3 foot + sets. Got barked at by the clubbies so had to paddle 200m down past the access point to avoid their club day and onto a bank which was annoying. Avoided all the sets and got into the shorey, jumped out expecting it was waist deep, but it was over my head. Had an interesting time stuck in a rip, out of the yak trying to swim it in. Caught a few waves, then got smashed, yak out of my hands, flipped and broke off the paddle leash. Swam in after it, soaked. Nice spectacle for all the clubbies on the beach. No broken rods though.

All fun though, good to get out.

Yep. I waited to I could see the cams, the 2.3m max A Buoy size was a worry Confused. Looked OK to me on the cams, Paps is always smaller on any swell with any East in it.

Getting out was pretty easy, which was pretty surprising. Coming in, well. Some of the sets were solid. Just about got cleaned up while I was messing about stowing my rods.
