When I went out Sunday around the reef in Plimmerton a few of my gulps came back virtually destroyed but I didn't feel anything. I am using braid so it was odd to say the least. Any ideas

Were you using a broomstick as a fishing rod?LOL

Could have been couttas. They can swoop in real quick and do "chomp and go". Easily missed if the gulp was taken on the drop.

Other than than, crabs could also be the culprit.

Leatherjackets and other small reef fish - try moving to a diff place or don't let sp sit still.

Yep as per RF, most of the time if I'm getting the SBs nibbled with chunks out of - its reef/small fish and it's sitting too long on the bottom. Gulps more prone to this as their gum compound is more readily bitten through compared to say a stretchier soft plastic like Sluggos or Strike Kings.
