3 more sleeps till lines in for the Taranaki comp. The scary thing is the weather. It looks like it will be stunning with no swell. Sounds as good as last year if not better. Add to that the tides and moon on time and I am really excited. If you have not decided, jump in your car and get over here.

Ok Guys - results from the Taranaki Kayak Fishing Classic.

First a big thank you to all our sponsors, in particular Viking Kayaks please see our web site for the rest of the sponsors.

A big thank you also to all the anglers. Each year the comp is growing by 20%

136 anglers brought 600 fish to the weigh in with a total weight of 1.1 tonne.
Any anglers not wishing to keep their catch could could deposit it directly on ice. This was later auctioned and the proceeds of approx $2,300 was donated to the Coast Gaurd
Egmont Seafoods skillfully filleted the fish for those that wished. Amazing to watch

Congratulations to all those that took home prizes and i hope you all had a great time.

Well done to Team Nubee for taking out the team prize for the second year in a row. A huge effort was put in by the team heading back out after weigh in and fishing through the night. I hear the return was a bit wet.

Another great effort was put in by Shamus and Stephen

Stephen weighed in the first kingfish for the comp - well done

Shamus managed an astounding 7 of the eight species to take out the Grand slam, only missing out on a king fish- great effort.

Great effort by Natasha Walsh, bagging 3 species to take out the Ladies prize

The rest of the prizes below - well done also to those that took out one of the many spot prizes

Keep an eye on our web site for photos and other results

Thanks once again to everyoneBeer

The solution to any problem - work, money, love, whatever - is to go fishing - the worse the problem the longer the fishing trip should be.

The Century Batteries Beach and Boat Competition 2012

As Liaison Officer for the Northland Kayak Fishing Club Inc, it gives me great pleasure to announce that we as a club are the hosts for THE OCEAN KAYAK “Kayak Fishing WORLD CUP” which is part of the 2012 Century Batteries Beach and Boat contest. Below is the first press release from the organisers covering the whole event and its new look and section(s) structure.
What does this major event mean for us as kayak fishers, well apart from the chance to win (across all kayak section entrants) some pretty spectacular prizes worth tens of thousands of dollars, the lucky winner within the section from whatever country will be crowned the Kayak Fishing World Champion and be awarded the associated cup.
Further to this, if it so happens that the overall event winning fish was caught by a kayak entrant they will also win the main competition prize! Double bubble!!!
This is a prestigious event that will be covered by various media from other countries and of course our own. One of the beauties of this event is that you do not have to be a kayak fishing guru to win something, but yes to get the coveted title will take a wee bit more than just turning up!!!

At this stage (even before full press release and marketing) contestants are coming over from the USA, Australia and the UK.

I will keep this thread updated with any relevant news as time goes by and will happily try and answer questions relevant to our section, like “how are people getting their kayaks and kit over from other countries” don’t worry that’s all been taken care of!!!!

The Beach and Boat website will be updated in about 2 week’s time. All rules etc will be able to be viewed then. Tickets should go on sale nationally and online around mid October. Early bird $110 and late entrants $129

Cheers
Karl

STOP THE PRESS...THE Beach and boat HAS extra power for 2012
The Century Batteries Beach and Boat 2012
It’s been a passion of the sport fishing crowd for many years now and in 2012 new energy comes from the Team at Century Batteries who have for many years worked diligently to help the marine industry with amazing products and also give help to organisations like The Coastguard.

The Century Batteries Beach and Boat will continue on from the huge success of the Beach and Boat event and become that legendary event that will be the MUST fish event of 2012

This summer season sees the 7th Beach and Boat event and again it will be held at the Stunning Marsden Cove Marina, The Furuno Snapper World Cup is up for grabs and the present World Champion Myles will be getting his mounted fish presented from last season, in 2012 another great Jet ski package and some cool prizes are waiting for the person who catches the biggest snapper.

On the 24th and 25th of February Export Gold presents the new look Century Batteries Beach and Boat Contest and what an amazing new look it is, 5 huge mystery weight prizes, a total of 20 major ticket draws worth over $30,000 put that in with the Mega ticket draw of a Ramco Boat, Yamaha outboard and Furono electronics worth a whopping $58,000 and the 2012 event is going to be a cracker...but hang on we still have a ton of great new stuff yet.

How about the Lucky Ladies Lipstick prizes, again just ticket draws for any lady who enters, 4 huge prize packs, plus the new look ladies prizes and trophies, including the Club marine ultimate ladies pamper package
Then the ladies section pinnacle, one lucky lady from a ticket draw will get the Pernod Ricard Supreme experience including an amazing beverage package that will take a large vehicle just to carry it away, so ladies get your men to clean out the 4X4

The Next major brand new entry to the event THE OCEAN KAYAK “Kayak Fishing WORLD CUP” this event will be Hosted by the NORTHLAND KAYAK FISHING CLUB Inc and it will be run side by side with the beach and boat and will run under a points system per KG and someone will be crowed the Ocean Kayak “Kayak Fishing World Champion”, this world invitation is being offered in the USA , Australia and several other countries. Anyone can fish for the county they were born in (if they choose to do so), so dust off those Kayaks boys and gal’s as there is a massive prize pool of over $30,000 and that brand new Ocean Kayak “Kayak Fishing World Cup” waiting to be won.

Hope you are all excited but there is still more, next the New Look kids event with great prizes and Trophies and the Yamaha Kids Catch of the tournament and the Shimano Ultimate junior Snapper Catch

Most unusual catch of the tournament, the hard luck prize and many more fun sections are well supported this year with great prizes and the many new ticket draw prizes show we are about having fun and also check out the new Export Gold cash & prize wheel making its debut at the 2012 event.

Then the massive prize section on offer for all 5 species Mystery weight for snapper, kingfish, John Dory, trivially and Kahawai taking the prize pool up and well over $220,000, 2012 sees an amazing $10,000 early bird prize and a $2000 electronics package for those who get their tickets before 31st December 2011

Century Batteries, Furuno, Waeco, DB Export Gold, Ramco Boats, Radio Hauraki, Shimano, Yamaha, Club marine, Ocean Kayak, Gas, Lowrance, New Zealand Fishing News, Sportsmans Choice, SPI, Whitehead signs, Print it, Orange Door Entertainment, Hutchwilco, Pernod Ricard, Makita, The Warehouse, Northland Kayak Fishing Club Inc, Allied Outdoors, Yuasa batteries, just some of the sponsors and people getting behind this iconic event, with even more names still to be confirmed!

For Tickets and more prize information www.beachandboat.co.nz tickets will also be available in most good tackle stores and go on sale mid October

Viking Kayaks Invitational – New Date: Friday 5th October

This is a call out to Viking Kayaks loyal customers wanting to participate in an invitational event on Friday 5th of October. The idea of this fun competition is to have an opportunity to meet up with other Viking paddlers over a few beers and a BBQ, and also enjoy a great pre-fish for this year’s Gold Rush Kayak Fishing Challenge in Coromandel happening over the weekend.

We’re holding this fun event out of Anglers Lodge at Amodeo Bay with a simple format:

*Shotgun start from the Lodge at 7am

*“Weigh-in” measure up; you must be at the weigh station at Anglers Lodge by 4pm.

*You can fish wherever you like provided you’re there for the start and back before 4pm

*Points based on length using supplied measures: 1cm = 1pt

*All that’s needed at the weigh station is a digital photo of the fish with the measure laid on top, no need to bring in your catch

*You will need some way to clearly photograph your fish with the measure

*You can photograph your fish on your kayak or back at the beach

Fish Specie:

Snapper – 3 longest fish measured

Kahawai – 2 longest fish measured

Kingfish – 1 fish measured

Please note: MOF rules apply; competition rulers should not be used to check minimum size compliance

Cash Prizes:

100% of entry fees go into the prize pool

1st longest combined length = 50% of the prize pool

2nd longest combined length = 30% of the prize pool

3rd longest combined length = 20% of the prize pool

Entry Fee:

$50 per angler

Grant, Stephen, and the Viking Fishing Team will be at Anglers Lodge after the prize giving with the BBQ fired up and beer’s chilling on ice. Come along and enjoy the fun, ask questions, and take kayaks for a test paddle.

Numbers are limited so you will need to register (no money required at this stage); email [email protected] or phone 0800 KAYAKER

I have a question in regards to your Comp Limitless.

If it's a catch and release comp done via measuring that would mean there is no legal limit as the fish in question would be returned to the water? well within MOF regulations if interpreted this way :D not that it would win anything of coarse but.
