Tuna were there over the classic weekend but didn't manage to hook up to my first.
Bottom fishing was incredibly slow on the weekend of the classic so i went in to look for some dory.. Was not disappointed. What a privilege to be able to take home some excellent eating fish.

Filmed a bunch of it too.

Been out yesterday with a friend looking for the end of the tuna run.    Things looked promising with water temperature 20.9 and colour quite blue.   In 90m, approx. 12km offshore, against all forecasts I got caught by a vicious westerly wind change with gust over 25knots.     Add to that two opposing swells of nearly 3m bumping into each other and creating big watery hillocks  making  this  a fuffu valve thighening situation.      The change happened so fast that I did not have time to pull my trolling lines in using all my wits to keep the yak upright.   Halfway home I hooked a Kahawai and had to drag it until I could land it between gusts.   Aiming for port made all the wave side on and did not allow me to quarter  them for a more balanced ride.   My mate who was about 4kms further in was also struggling with his even narrower Stealth kayak.     No tuna but definitely a character building experience for both of us.      Even though it was only a 24km (nearly all paddle) my arms were nearly dropping off.   Once I had a shower and a feed then I took a Voltarin pill to mask the old body pain.

Sounds like Tuna Alley was closed for maintenance. Appreciate the share Rainbow, always good to get be reminded about the limitations of the organic outboard.

Snuck out for a couple of BBK missions during the week. Got a bin load of snapper both trips including some weighty buggers in very shallow water with the help of the low evening sun.

Was out meat hunting in a stiff westerly that forced me to retreat to the harbour after only an hour getting blasted out there.     Did OK with 3 snapper and two gurnard plus landed at least 10 big strong KW.     One of the gurnard was a monster weighing 2.03kg and the biggest I have ever seen.     Unfortunately like so many big females the meat was quite white and flabby.

Don't tell smudge about that carrot, he might have to handover the Carrot king status...
Nice Fish rainbow, any chance you took a measure of its length?
Why choose either diving or fishing when you can do both. Besides crayfish tail is very good bait!!
