Is anyone using a later model (after 2016) Hyundai Santa Fe to tow a 5.5 - 6m boat and beach launch? I'm looking to upgrade my tow wagon and this seems like a viable option. Any feedback would be welcome.

A mate uses one for a boat that size and no issues. Not sure if he beach launches though.

I had a 2016 Santa Fe and liked it as a car however I now have a Pajero Sport and much it’s a better tow wagon with genuine 4x4 high low gear box and diff lock more capable compared to AWD.

Trade off it doesn’t ride as nicely as the Santa Fe. Not horrible by any means but the Santa Fe was slightly more refined when not towing.

I used a 2014 to tow a kiwikraft 590 and beach launch up North. No problem!

Like Crochet Cast I had a 2016 Santa Fe (diesel).  I used it to tow a 5.25m CSB Huntsman for several years and it did well.  Beach launched a few times each year up north (but not regularly) and had no issues.  Although to be fair I was careful and organised so a 2WD may have been OK too.

The Santa Fe was also nice to drive as a car when not towing.  Overall it was / is a good vehicle.

I've sold that boat and now have a ~6m hardtop.  The Santa Fe felt a little "light" for the new boat so I bought a Pajero Sport. (This may possibly have been an excuse to buy a new vehicle ... LOL ).  This tows better - but so it should and as CC says the Santa Fe is nicer to drive as a car (the Pajero Sport is also good but it's a different style of vehicle).

Should do the job fine, the beach launching will just depend on the beach and how soft it is. I think from memory they have a center diff lock.

If the beach launching side of things is a softer then I would be thinking something with 4wd low and an air compressor would be your best friend

Thanks for all the responses. I currently use a 4x4 to beach launch and it does it with ease, most times in 2WD mode. It's getting a bit long in the tooth (1996) and it's time for an upgrade. I would prefer another true 4x4 but just can't justify the cost for a vehicle that only gets truly used so little.
