Anyone that still uses this steering design be aware the bracket corrodes and the aluminum tube that the bracket clamps onto to anchor the cable. I had a nasty experience last year December crossing the Raglan Bar alone the tube broke lucky i was going slow the boat turned to the left i had no control the steering stopped working. There was no time to stop and think the waves were coming i instinctively jumped to the back garbed hold of the cowling and steered the boat back .once back into the harbor i contacted coastguard and told them bar crossing was aborted
