No it hasn't got covid. Looking at another Northland trip next April. This time I've got a couple of weeks to get lost in the north. Thinking the first stop will be Matauri Bay campground. Taking the Mac360 and 4x4 this time because last time we came across so many beach launching spots. Definitely wanting to have a fish around those Cavalli Islands. They just look too good, not too have a go. Any reserves in that area I should be aware of?

Na Nothing -
The only real no-go zone is the other end of the beach....either by boat or on foot.
The locals don't really like "us" being there.
April is a great time.
It gets pretty hammered over summer.

If you want to fish the Cavalli's, Launch at Te Ngaere Bay, very easy at the eastern end of the beach by the stream/lagoon.    I'll be at Whatuwhiwhi from late march till April 9.  I'm happy to send you some 'locations of interest' around the Cavelli's have spent a few holidays in that neck of the woods

You will have a great time!  Best to steer clear of the Rainbow Warrior at the Cavallis if you are fishing - it's a voluntary no-take wreck.  (This is what it looked like about 6 years ago - before my old GoPro gave up)

I've seen kingfish round the rocks closest to the Rainbow Warrior (far enough away to be out of the no-take zone I would say) but there are also better looking kingie spots round the cavs.
