Hey guys need some advice.

I'm selling my boat and cannot find anything about change of ownership.
It seems only the trailer needs to change ownership.

Is this correct?

Yep.
The trailer is registered - with Govt. Your boat is not.
BUT what you should do - to safeguard yourself, is draw up a sale/purchase form - on an A4. Sold to.....on date..... for $..... in Full. Description of boat and whatever else goes with it.
So there is no dispute later over what transacted. Signed by both. 2 copies.
It is a legal sale/purchase doc.

Many years ago was given some very sage advice by my dad that
such an agreement should include the words ... "As inspected this day'' ... stating an appropriate date.

Doing so puts complete onus on the buyer to satisfy themselves they are happy with the purchase & cannot claim further down the track problems exist that they had not been aware of.

Also it is important to both parties that it is made quite clear which items or accessories such as aux motor, electronics, life jackets, safety gear etc are included or excluded in the sale price & also if any money is owing on the items being sold ... not that doing so removes all risk of a claim being made by creditors.

At the same time it affords the seller the option to compensate for any such claim/s at their discretion, if considered to be fair & reasonable but no obligation to do so.

A few photos would not go amiss either.

If you buy from private seller, proof of boat was paid in full also not a bad idea.

3rd party lender could put security, pps or interest to the boat,
just like a car but we don't have carjam to check it.

Perhaps a search on the trailer rego might help Boby.
