Kia ora team,

I'm looking at getting a new topwater all-rounder setup for the rocks.

I would be mainly fishing off rocks in the Coromandel or the east coast north of Auckland with a handful of serious trips here and there Far North or at the top of the Coromandel.

I'm tossing up between either the 2015 Saltiga 5000H or a 2020 Saltiga 14000XH on PE6 with a leader of between 100lb to 130lb.

The main difference between the pair is the price - the 2015 one is almost half the price of the 2020 one and I'm not sure whether the 2020 one is worth that extra $600 or so, even with the new internals and the 10kg increase in drag (from 15kg to 25kg).

Probably going to pair it up with a Shore Spartan S100 PE4/6 or some other 10ft topwater rod (or an 8ft carpenter that I'm negotiating for...).

Would be grateful for any thoughts, especially whether the 5000H would be enough for what I'm planning, cheers!

Why not something like a Saragosa?
Cheaper than either and could add spools?
Or get two!

Good idea mate but as I have a couple of mid-level reels already, was hoping to get something nice and shiny Tongue

I understand the urge but it doesn’t always work out. Imagine busting up your shiny Saltiga on the stones and then there is the servicing.
The Saragosa has got a great write up and is in reality high end.

Yeah I have owned Branzinos, Certate, Stella’s so I get your TAS thing but the servicing did add up. They don’t look the coolest I get that but I imagine they will get the job done. Plus spare change for stick baits.
But seriously up to you if you go get a 2020 Saltiga then enjoy the experience that’s the main thing

Thanks Muppet much appreciated - yep love reading his reviews.  Too bad he never did one for the 2015 saltiga! Only the Saltiga Z, 2014 expo and the 2020.

Worth a mention for a rod is the new MC WORKS Trident series in both the Raging Bull and Explosion series. 3 piece rods designed exclusively for landbased.
Also the standard 2pce Raging Bull rods.

That new Twinpower looks sweet
