Yep - good tip.
I have had 80lb mono topshot marked to an unacceptable level just because the bloke on the reel didn't spread the line. It would have wrecked a braid. As it was I had to chop half my topshot off before returning a lure to the water.

That was my first thought as well.  Why would anyone tug on the line like that?  I can't recall ever seeing anyone else do this.

When we are on our strike time hour, when game fishing, we all check out the gear and this includes a straight pull of the line to check the drag but never would we pull the line upwards.
