I know the snapper head off shore to warmer waters during winter so I'm wondering if fishing off The Mount or Papamoa beach is worth it during the winter months or should I pack my surfcaster away till spring?

Leisure island will still be worth a look... Even the odd snapper could be lurking through winter... Kahawai and trevally would be a better species to target though.

I gave up monitoring this thread after one week with no replies, I didn't think anyone would answer.  Just chanced upon your post now while looking through the walk-about sub.

I'll give Leisure Island a go and use some flasher rigs on the kahawai and trevally.

ThanksSmile

The rocks on the northern end of main beach are worth a go as well, heaps of burley. There are a series of guts, with rocky fingers that extend into the water, might be a moocher hanging around but heaps of KY etc. Change of light, with with high tide always helps, good luck 👍
