I've seen turtles in the Waikato River near the gardens.
Caught perch using soft plastic, black gold Toby, Veltics and Rapalas..... Any small bait imitations..
A wet fly about 40 to 50 mm, just about any colour will do as perch are very hungry.

I've seen turtles at Turtle Lake recently and caught good size Perch at the Yacht Club end of Hamilton Lake a couple of months ago using #1 red and gold veltex.

does sound like turtles are “out” in the environment. I’m not sure the impact or how they can be targeted for eradication. Do they only eat live fish or do they scavenge too? Red eared turtles m guessing.
