I miss the reports and banter.

I agree 100% and will moderate this thread to remove the wheel bearing noises. I'll allow it in the Politics forum but yeah it wore thin a long time ago.

It's not weather their statements are right or wrong, it's the persistence that grinds me.

Having taken a sample of the early posts in this thread I apologize if I miss points raised by others. The decline (in my opinion expressed some time ago x a few) is more than in part due to removing banter, a bit of niggle and chaos many years ago. They were damned popular. There was some seriously good humorous and satirical writing, face to face interaction and fishing info. Some legendary fishing trips with a number of members.

Time takes a toll, a bunch move from active to rocking chair to deceased. I still believe controlled vibrance wins over old school Victorian values. I accept the need to protect from litigation.

RIP Bender, ex moderator and "Adventure Rider" fan for contrast.

Whether that approach maintains relevance long term, or just spices things up for an aging, but financially relevant group in decline, I'm unsure. I'll take vibrance while I can.

I still go to Swashies, catch up with some of the Shoreboyz and wonder where some of the characters are now. Sadly rarely here.

I originally joined the forum because an interest in boating rather than fishing.  So the Boat shed was my sub forum of choice.  Over the last few years it seems to have less and less activity and what is there is for smaller boats. I really enjoyed the build threads or questions about boats that guys with more knowledge and  Experience than me would answer. I think Tagit was an excellent contributor along with Don.  I haven’t seen a post from either of those guys for a long time.

In the Non fishing related threads I have noticed a massive increase in objectively incorrect  and misleading information from a small but vocal minority.  At first it was fun trying to debate them but I quickly realised it was pointless because for the most part they don’t even understand what they are saying just spouting nonsense they’ve heard from somewhere else. There is no interest in debate or learning only broadcasting.

All this just leads to less posting and general disengagement I’m afraid.

A lot of the best 'action' in the forums these days comes from the more specialist areas where that topic is the sole focus of the contributors. The Freshwater forum is a great example of that as are the sticky post in Fishing Reports.

The Work Up is full of really cool stuff too.

Tagit handed out great advice alright but for personal reasons no longer contributes.
