Watching breaking news on CNN this morning and Dr Fauci is warning that the death toll from corona-virus will reach 300,000 in America. Trump is warning the public that there will be many more deaths.
Something Dr Fauci mentioned, that when testing for corona-virus in the field, they had discovered they were getting 15% false positives. That is the tests were not finding the corona-virus in 15% of the people who had it...

What they dont tell you is that false +ve is usually caused by a person who has had Covid, recovered, and still has traces of dead contaminated cells which can remain for several months..

Which in that case, if they have never been tested before, had mild  symptoms would still be co8unted when where not before.
And add to that the US is only able to test a proportion of those showing symptoms , and even then there are days , even weeks on a 'waiting list'

Not quite Steps. What he is meaning is that 15% of those with the virus are not being picked up in the tests. Better expressed as false negatives really.
It is a sampling problem. And one of the many weaknesses  in our border system. Eg setting people off on compassionate exemption from isolation based on a -ve test. Doesn't mean they haven't got the virus. Good chance they haven't, but still a possibility they have.
What you are referring to is what seems to be a a 2nd infection in many. They are picking up +ve tests in many who had the infection many weeks or months previous. What they haven't concluded yet is if they have been infected again (no immunity) or it is a relic of the old infection.

Yeah false positives is when the test doesn't indicate that you have the virus, when you do. False negative is when the test indicates that you have the virus, but you don't..

Medical terms not mine...

The false positives are a worry..but I think our NZ false positives would be a lot lower due to smaller numbers of testing and better testing procedures..

You have that backwards, a false positive is when the test says "yup" and you don't have it.

Yes - but it was reported as 15% false positives. You cant get those false +ves with this test.  meaning if you are -ve, you can't get a +ve result. Only false negatives.
So the 15% referred to is really false -ves. They reported -ve, but in fact were +ve.

No - its not dead. Just sleeping. Looks dead, all symptoms of dead. But not. According to the guy selling it.
So it is either falsely alive, or falsely dead. Depending if you are the buyer or seller.
