Have seen endless video clips where anglers manage to firmly grasp a trout by its, tail !

I have tried over & over to do likewise but without success.

Is there a secret to it ???

Unfortunately F8 I have obviously never had one sufficient enough for
the afore mentioned purpose despite having repeated success over the years, particularly in the teens for other requirements !

Yip gloves make all the difference.  Both myself and my wife generally are wearing sun gloves which means you can hold onto the fish. The synthetic leather / lycra makes all the difference. Just make sure the glove is nice and wet before handling the fish, but that goes without saying right.

Only on the weekend we were fishing and my wife caught a lovely fish she wanted a photo with.  Being around 1c she was wearing thick winter gloves and took them of to hold the fish up, but struggled so much that we gave up on trying to take a photo.

A friend of mine prefers not to wear sun gloves, so instead has a little mesh bag that he has clipped to his vest.  He bought it while in the US as a fish holding aid.  Works really well.

For holding the fish or for the other purpose ... guess you are a recognised authority in both functions.

Ah the other one?   Boxing gloves are ideal for that, or at lest a good way of avoiding grip. LOL
