Thinking about this - cannot go out with mates as breaking isolation?

If I go on my own is not essential travel to pharmacy/super market - means at some point I have to get gas/spares/bait for boat - breaking Isolation rule?

If I go will cops be waiting for me when I get back?

Will an angry member of public let my tyres down/vandalise my car - do I risk this?

Hmm....
Good fishing trip nothing breaks, great trip catch fish.

Is the lockdown 48 hours after the PM's or midnight Wednesday. I'm hoping its the latter due to Wednesdays forecast.

My understanding for the level 4 lockdown is that you CAN go out for walks, and presumably for boat/fishing etc, if you do not come within 2 metres of someone who doesn't live in the same household.

Don't take this as gospel, but the "go for walk" bit was passed on as a quote from Jacinda.

So, to be confirmed, it would be OK to go fishing if you do not get closer than 2 metres.  For me, the missus wouldn't come if it cured her of Covid, so its fish alone, which I actually quite like anyway :)

I do wait to be corrected.

That was my interpretation too, but I will follow the rules even if I don't entirely agree with them. Solo fishing and jetskis go together like fish and chips anyway Smile

I think the argument falls flat when you consider nobody will be working. The boat ramps, docks, etc will be full and busy even if only one per boat. I can ride my bike down row out and go fishing so I feel like I am independent but that's not fair to all the trailer boat guys so it's not a level playing field. My guess is NO fishing from boats at least. I hope I am wrong!

I'm going to say yeah... I'll still fish.

1. It's about as bloody isolated as I'm going to get, as I'm out there on my own.
2. Regular fresh fish that I catch is genuinely a part of two households food supplies.
3. Mental health is going to be just as important over the next month.

They say you're allowed out in private vehicles...

You are correct, can still go fishing by yourself or with others that you are isolating with.

Primary industries, especially as they relate to food production, are considered essential services.

I'm guessing comm fishing is part of food supply - should be exempt. Supermarkets to remain open - essential service. As would their suppliers be.
The Q still is around Rec fishing. I'm taking it to mean if I go out on my own I should be OK. Don't share a boat ramp - beach launch. Thats my take at the moment. Moving out there tomorrow.
I think there will never be clear rules for every circumstance - this stuff is being made up as we go. So need to look at what is trying to be achieved - lack of transmission.

The one thing I have a little bit of hesitance about is if I had a problem and had to call the Coasties out...

I suspect given perfect weather hordes will be going out and a sh*t storm may result - personally I can see that it breaks the spirit of self  isolation even if out on your own, because potentially you would then need more gas etc unless its a kayak walked down to sea from home...or you may go out with buddies which is a definite no no!

i am not intending to go out for now and let others test the boundaries - bear in mind some people in Italy wanted going out for a walk banned!

I think this is a serious business and potentially 1000's of vulnerable folk could die - should we get serious about this?

surely c.g is an essential service. As for fishing solo. Commonsense would say its the safest place to be.

They talk about lockdown, isolation, yet supermarkets open.
Given crowds surely they would be one of the least safe places.

I rang Auckland C.G this afternoon to ask if they would be operating.
Got automated message saying due to overloaded lines they could not answer. Told to call back later.
