Protection bars should be compulsory on all cars! Exclamation mark because I have twice backed into a post on the corner of the car. It broke tail light and damaged paint.
Of course I could have avoided it if I had been more careful
Remember, cars used to all have bumpers, which avoided damage to the body in a rear shunt. Not now, the body is exposed to all dings.

It's because we learned a little bit about crash protection, both for the people inside the vehicle and the person being run into.

Putting a big steel beam across each end of a car is a good way to transmit lots of force to the occupants, and to make sure that whatever you run into dies.
