Great catch and R. Nice pic.
For those fishing Raglan, my crew are planning a trip there (with my boat, and me I think).
Had an acquaintance go up there over long w/end and nailed several. But I am not reading lots of reports. I guess many don't make it on the website?
Is it going off at Raglan?
Thanks
Alan

Fished out of Raglan Sunday . Went 2-2-1 and saw a lot of marlin. First time fishing out of Raglan . Here is a pic of a stripey that was rounding up bait. We saw at least 3 on a meat ball

Wow - sounds awesome.
Would be our first time out of Raglan too. Will be looking for a few tips before venturing - and hopefully team up with someone over the bar etc.
Bit of water to flow under the bridge yet. One crew has now shot to Waihau for a few days.
Thanks

There must have beenover 200 marlin caught between Raglan and Kawhia this year.
I've fished from a small boat (15ft) and used to stick to about 50 metres and caught 3 marlin but closer to the 100 M area have been having work-ups and bait balls - circling gannets but non diving = marlin below.
One boat found  packed bait on sounder down to 40 M and jigged/sabiki up some jack macs then just put out livies....tagged 3 marlin. If you find a big patch of bait, stay put.

Awesome - thanks FishB8.
That should be enough to get the crew going. Hoping they will let me tag along. I have the key to the boat, and 2 of the game reels.

I was out there about a month ago heading due west and got to about 94 M and we saw some big bait, then a big work up about 400 m away but moving fast then we gave that up when we couldn't see anything.
About 15 minutes later we saw 2 or more marlin feeding on the surface and motored past them and had a double hook up. That's when the major f**k ups started and we lost them both. I heard of the live baiting last week and figured what they were doing.
I'm off to Gt Barrier Island for a week on Friday and no internet so go for it.
Best of luck!

OK guys. We are planning our first trip to the W Coast - after talking about it for several seasons and not coming up with a final plan.
Were heading toward Raglan , but a vote between the crew means now heading to N Plymouth. My preference was Raglan, but more important we are all in favour of a good trip beyond anything else.
Some intel on general gamefishing there would be appreciated.
Weather conditions that are favourable. I believe that 3-4k off shore you are in target water?
General localities to head for would be useful.
I am guessing we will get enough local info at the launch regarding route from port, radio comms etc.
Have been once to launch site without a boat. Recall a board there explaining some local protocols - parking etc.
Thanks
Alan
