First time in the new FC430 turns into a fun morning on the water
With the new 430 in tow my sis and I made our way out to one of Auckland's Harbours on a softbait mission, usually we have the little 12'6 Fyran so I was looking forward to having a bit more room to stretch out the legs. Having the 2 bucket seats rather than 3 x seats opened up the fishing area that's for sure.
Arriving at the ramp our spot X was in sight, this time of year you don't have to travel to far. There was little to no wind and it was looking like a magic morning on the cards, dropping the little 430 in the drink it didn't take much for it to roll with ease into the water. It's been awhile since I've had a boat that just slides easily into the water - I didn't even have to touch it before it started rolling.
The plan was to take the 430 for a bit of a run but with our spot so close to our launch the fishing fever took over so we made our way to our spot, it's a nice long bank that rises out of the main channel up to 1-2mtrs where we drift flick baits. We catch fish to 70cm here most times and it's insane when you could pretty much just step out of the boat into waist deep water.
I combo'd up the little 430 with the Lowrance elite 7Ti2 - this was my first use with one and I must say it's a pretty swt unit that fits well with the 430, finding some sign we started our drift in 1.4mtrs and pretty much on our first couple of casts I hooked up to a nice fish. Gen was getting smashed but to no hook up but even that is a lot of fun. Twitching the bait then a slow hard pull with line peeling for a few seconds still gets the hart racing, my first fish was a nice Harbour fish to around 60cm. With no wind to be felt it was a nice slow drift, each one to two casts ended with either a fish or the bait being smashed.
We were pretty close to the bottom of the tide and even though it was just over a mtr of water it seemed the fish where on the mooch before being pushed of the bank. It slowly drops away and we were being smashed right through the drift to around 5mtrs where the bites dropped away, once we made it to that depth we fired up the Merc and reset the little 430 back up into 1mtr to start the process all over again.
We had 3-4hours of fun, mayhem and even a couple of bust offs - Gen didn't have a lot of hook up luck dropping multiple solid fish mid fight but she still had an absolute blast. She was also pretty stoked with the little FC430 compared to our old Fyran not being all crammed up and able to stand the whole time or even sitting on the wide gunnels they have.
So far I pretty much only have good things to say about the new FC430 and Lowrance package but have yet to put it fully through it's paces.
