...next couple of days, and early next week, I would assume a fair few will head out, should be good right? Moon Ok, wind drop, lots of baitfish. Snapper, kingfish, skipjack, ky,..others. Although cyclones are around, the weather between them seems to be 'settling', about time ay.

Well I am off tomorrow (Thursday).  First trip for some time apart from Tutukaka area, which had mixed results to say the least, not knowing where to go plus 1m easterly swells....

Anyway, all packed up and with a plan: Devonport for a drift while its just getting daylight (or before), out to the buoys for some stickbaiting, shallow water SPs, sit out the turn of tide then probably drift somewhere with SPs and microjigs until I have had enouigh.  Likely pack my togs for a dip somewhere or other.  Fan. Tas. Tic.  Fish or not.  Report tomorrow :)

Hmmmmm. Went out Monday. Started nice, 10 knots or less, zipped around, got sucked into going way north. Then the wind came up about 16 knots SW, and had a hard trip home into the sea.
Appears that wind usually increases in the afternoon, so its a hard trip home.
Metservice forecast, was 10 knots NE - actual was 16 knots SW , ie exactly opposite direction. When I returned, I saw that MS had changed the forecast to the correct 15kn SW, but too late.
As Ive said recently, Metservice seems unable to grasp the importance of more frequent updating of their forecast. To landlubbers, 10 or 15 knots is not a problem, but on the sea, it is.

Anyway, I will only believe that more settled weather is coming, when it actually happens!

Weather forecast pretty good today except for afternoon sea breeze, but not sure if that was mentinoed.  Plenty of boats. Fishing slow.  Neap tide?

Could have been forgiven for thinking WW111 had erupted if trying to launch or retrieve from Gulf harbour today as were hundreds of personel from the various services ie air force, navy, army police etc complete with boats, a ship, aircraft, cranes, heavy equipment & who knows what else.
Not to be outdone MPI fishing inspectors were actively inspecting recreational boats catches etc. On my return from the car park with the trailer I asked an officer if he wanted to check my catch & he answered that he already had ????? It is my understanding they usually are obliged to request permission to come on board to carry out inspections but in this instance that had not happened !
