Where in Auckland (Shore preferable) does one purchase a small example of this species?

Obald, as naki said any engineering supply shop. The one's to look for are called Ezi-lap and come in coarse(black), medium(purple) & fine(red) or RADD diamond files again the one you want is 180mm x 10mm and only comes in a coarse grade. They are not cheap Ezi-laps are around $25 each not sure about RADD, I use them at work for sharpening labels punch die's.

I know its not the Shore but Bob Norcross had some in the shop in Henderson last time I was out there. I take it you want it for sharpening hooks?

I can vouch for ezylaps. I use the blue super fine version and it is greap for touching up knives and hooks. One or two strokes and you will notice the difference. It has a nice ergnomic design and is slim and light for carrying around.

I am sure Hammer Hardware have them. The one at Silverdale had some the other day when I was there. Not cheap though.
