While in the North Stevo and I try to do a few sets with the tiki - With a beaut arvo on the cards we headed off towards Puheke for an arvo set into the night. The plan was to hopefully get enough fish on the first set but what we decided to do was do a quick shallow set first then if it didn't workout for us we would do a further out and longer second set. This place is just magic with white sands and clear water - even if you caught nothing it's such an awesome place to catch nothing... We set out our first drop with just a 15min run and a 30min soak, the great thing when setting the tiki I get to have a quick flick with the surfcaster to. Stevo fired up the winch and the hooks started coming in - our first fish was a solid fish and it looked like maybe we had made the wright decision with a quick shallow set but only a couple more fish came in after that with only a few hooks de-baited . It wasn't to bad because it gave us an excuse to stay longer in paradise and do a set into the night, sometimes these just on dark sets are the go. Most times we like to be all done by just before dark as it's easier to sort everything out and clean up while still light, but just like surfcasting it's magic to be fishing that perfect time of day. This time we set it on a 25min run and did a good hour soak - it's to hard to know was it that magic time of day or the decision to go further with a longer soak but it was a lot better set for us. We brought in a few more nice fish on this set and it turned out to be another magic day in the North.... Tight lines
