Yeah some good intel. Just seen a pic off a couple of Mahimahi out of the Manukau zone today.
I’ll head for my spot I think rather than the 130 spot

I’m up
Back out again for another day of torment. Had a very slow day yesterday. Perfect conditions with not much biting.
Went to about 105m north of the bar. Good water 23 d temp
Apparently there were plenty of skippies and Albee’s but we never saw them. Only one skip for the whole day for us.
Headed back into 48 of Karekare where there was a lot more bait and bird life. Had one good hit that lasted 20 seconds then fell off. Lure came back with a broken light gauge hook. Yeah yeah I know, don’t take a knife to a gun fight. To be fair that hook was not on its first season or first fish so a lesspon learnt.
Heaps of big Macs behind the bar north end in 40ish metres
Will head there first thing this morning to stock up. Coming up 3-5 at a time on un baited sabiki
Good luck to all today. Time to hit the rd.

Had a great gurnard and snapper sesh off Orua last night and over bar at 0600. Glad I didn’t have to do the ramp with everyone...
We’ve had plenty of Albies today and pulled that lure out. Just saw two blue whales in 160 straight out. Heading in a bit closer now.

Listening to the radio today, the west went off.
Singles, doubles and a treble.
If you weren't there you'll just be reading about it.
Or listening while I clean the boat and mutter bugger should of stayed out.

There have definetly been two areas of bait, the 35-60 m parallel to the coast.
There are macs, kawhai, skips and albies there.
Larger predators like kings, makos, sharks in general and Marlin.
And a spread out intermittent strip along the 100ish m line. This contained saury and I'm guessing here possibly squid and macs in spread but sparse schools.
Then albies and skips.
Predators were seals, sharks and of course billfish.
Today also presented many more bait balls some quite large and heavily concentrated.
Seems the sea state was pretty good from what I heard.
There are also two fads that I know of off the coast.

No cigar for us. Action was north up towards muriwai in range of depths it would seem.
Lot caught. 1st two boats I spoke to back huia both had marlin in them. Livies and lures taking those 2 fish.
Bar was little lumpy coming in about 4. Tide started to run out. Good test for 490 stabi in south channel. Didn't break anything so good day out.
Caught up with Phil at beach as well. Think I'll go again Friday

Yeah we only bet Shane by one albie...we had the tip off to head for muriwai but didn’t want to risk 20 nm of bashing home if the sw filled in...I might go Friday too if Mum will give me some gas money...oh yeah almost forgot we saw a definite free jumper grey hounding along in 40m off karekare while we were catching jackos..deployed one in the area but nada

I made the same decision as you supermodel and it didn’t pay off. Was far nicer conditions out there than I had expected in the afternoon. Seeing those blue whales kinda made up for it.
