Just because it's lockdown, do you think it makes a difference? I'm somewhat of the opinion that if you wave a lure past a snapper's nose, it's going to have a go at it. The trick is getting it in front of the snapper's nose!

Possibly, though I have watched my lures descend into snapper and have them completely ignore it.
And conversely seen them rise up 10m in no time at all to take one.

So it is all up to the mood the snapper is in.

I would concede that retrieval speed can make a difference and think that scent/taste can make them more obliging, but don't think our most popular fish is as picky as tackle manufacturers would have us believe.

Yep when those snapper are hungry they’ll attack anything.

When I did a lot of diving at the Poor Knights, I had some reef markers. Just small polystyrene floats attached to a metre of string and anchored with a fishing sinker. Those floats got absolutely destroyed by snapper, so much so, I had to stop using them.

They started off orange on top and white at the bottom, but the orange paint came off pretty fast.
