Howzit,

Going to aitutaki soonish,
wanting to hear peoples favourite choice of footwear.

last time I was using the simms thick soled neoprene version.
they were awesome.
I hav since destroyed them![bit of general roughness in my part]
was going to replace them but before I did wanted to hear others experiences etc.

take in mind I be using them in our summers etc for kings etc.

Thanks all.

Adam, sorry, can't help on the Patagonia flats bootie, and I'm sure you've heard I use 'Offroad' Crocs with 3mm neoprene socks. Works for me Smile

And well done on the Aitutaki visit Clap I need to get back there! Life is not quite the same without Aitutaki!

I got some SIMMS flats shoes. Lightweight with very thick sole. Wore them on Raro reef. Pretty good shoe. Will use them walking on NZ flats in summer. Otherwise crocs may work if more sandy were you are?
Where are you going to stay in Aitutaki? The resort Island with the flying boat base looks mean.
I ended up doing a charter with e2way popping for GTS. Saw some on reef. Awesome day on water.
Here fishy, fishy fishy.... Nom, nom, nom

Yea Adam, I reckon those Patagonia Flats Bootie look the go.  Iv got a pair of Oceanic Dive booties that have a very strong sole on them that iv been using for years.  I reckon that the Patagonia Flats Bootie looks like an upgraded version of what Iv got, so perfect.

Mine don't go as high up the ankle which means I get a bit of sand in at times.  One thing id check is that the zip latch works well, or attach something to ensure that the zip does not slide down over the day.  Iv had a few pair of booties that do that and its a real pain.  Often meaning a bootie full of sand, or even coming of at an inappropriate time Ouch

Polar, I'm staying at ranginuis, rite next to resort.
cant wait to get back
am planning on putting some time on the Gts,
as well as the massive bones!

I ended up splashing out on a pair off Simms Intruders[orederd online, for the same price as buying local ,I got the boots and a new Rio line!].
wasn't originally going to but the more ithought about how much time I'm spending in the Kingy season crunching around on all sorts of substrates, etc.
Plus, there a perfect design.
I no ya don't really need super grunty footwear at Ait, but I like to have some good ankle support and comfort when your on your feet all day.Smile

@FBF, I got some Patagonia high ankle wading booties a couple of weeks ago while on holiday in Christchurch for just over $100 from Fisherman's Loft. Claimed to have impenetrable sole.  Early Father's Day present ...Wink . Can't wait for some warmer water to try them out.

What was the price on the one's you were looking at?!

don't askMarkCry
but having said that , the same as what ya would expect for a Simms Boot,
as I do all my fishing in the salt now there a good investment.

can confirm from 6 days of continuous use, no problemas.
great support, no sore knees that ya can get from being on your feet all day.
I tiny bit of sand got in, but nothing to worry about.
friggin awesome in the reefy areas.

Can I ask who you ordered your Intruders through as they look like the ducks nuts? Went for a flick this avo and ended up with more sand in my sneakers than on the beach! A couple of small Trevor’s for the effort but my feet are a size smaller due to being sandpapered down a size!
Cheers

If I were to get specialised saltwater boots again I'd probably be grabbing the Orvis Andros hikers. They seem to have more and better features than the Simms flats boots.

My flats boots can now only be used with the neoprene guard socks due to my idiot dog chewing then up. I don't think the warranty includes "fire, flood or acts of dog"

Yup I got a pair of Andros coming. My Simms Flat sneakers are dead, soles have split. I think I got 30 days of coral bashing and numerous local trips out of them so they probably lived up to their potential. The Andros boots were worn by a number of guys on a trip I did recently and they all raved about them. Chris Beech told me they were the best boots he'd ever had. Tip = buy one or 2 sizes up, the boots are narrow so if you;ve a decent hoof you need to buy bigger.

The SIMMS website says they have size 14. Anyone seen them that big? I only have 13s and they just fit. 14 with the waders/sock would be better.

My favourite boots are soral Madson, which i purchased from the ski bum Coupons last summers.
They are too soft, snug and also waterproof boots. They are good choice to use in summers.
