Yes, it's a shame for us fishermen. I have fished and camped at Parengarenga legitimately, paid fees etc. and it's a beautiful spot. But, if it's privately owned land, the owners can do whatever they like with it.

Oh really? The owners can do with the land what they like?
Bet that will come as a surprise to the Craggy Range people in Hawke's Bay.

And all city dwellers that have to consult, read pay a fee, to have their land investigated, sometimes by more than one Iwi for "cultural significance" on any new development of already developed sections. Even 100 year old existing developed sections.
As mentioned in an earlier post. It is only going to get worse.
There are many back door negotiations going on in Parliament that people will not know about until it affects them.
The MACA is one such piece of legislation.
Water is another.
Those two alone will affect everyone.

I wouldn't disagree with your stance on this at all. And yes, it will get worse. A whole lot worse.

Fair play to the locals if they want to close their camp then that's their prerogative, lost revenue I guess doesn't matter to them as much as keeping people away.
It's **** for the likes of us small boat fishermen who launch there and head out to North Cape and areas. Too far to steam from Houhora to North Cape in a small boat.
Wonder if they would allow a permit type system to access the camp...

I will go spare if Taputs gets locked up as well Cry

Interesting reading people’s thoughts on this issue.
The reason Parengarenga is the best harbour to fish in the country is because iwi stopped commercial fishing there, when it was geting over exploited.
As kaitiaki of the harbour they have done a pretty good job so far.
Love fishing, love my job. It's a bloody shame that they clash.

Factually impossible!

Shipley was PM until 1999 and resigned from parliament at the 2002 election.

Finlayson was elected to parliament in 2005.

OK but that is comm fishing Potty.

I don't know why any rec guys would even think to comparing themselves to comms. I said in an earlier post you could rec fish that harbour no worries we would barely scratch the surface of the fish population.

That is another advantage of the harbour C & R is so much easier.

That's sad news. Had some great memories at Paua and Te Hapua wharves. Always respectful of the area and looked after the locals.

Better to have loved and lost I guess, than never to have loved at all...
