Spent 4 days last week fishing the canals. We had perfect weather and good fishing, although it was hot and cold at times.
Over 4 days I ended up landing 4 browns, 3 rainbows and 11 salmon. 
The salmon were all between 6 and 14 lb and caught on a mixture of soft baits and metal spoons. Great place to spend a few days.

Awesome few days well done, where did you base yourself from, looking at travelling down from Auckland at some point to try the canals.

Stayed at the Ruataniwha motor camp next to the lake. Cheap but basic accommodation. 
Got some friends down there at the moment and they are doing pretty well.
