If you are going to store ""A" Category firearms, the methods of Storage are in the ""Arms Code"", if you are going to store Military Style Semi Automatics or other ""E"" Category firearms, you need to have more secure storage. Suggest you give your local Firearms Office a call, and ask them, as they will be doing the Inspection.
It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing, by people who can't fish.

I made a gun safe out of a mains pressure hot watercylinder, Just ordinary hinges and two hasp and staple type locks. It passed ok but it wouldn't be too hard to break into with a grinder

I made mine out of 30mm custom wood screwed and glued. I used fixed pin s/s hinges x 4 and flush mounted the door to make it harder to pry open. I took the flex out of the opening and by adding 40x40x5 steel angle. The lock was a deadlock that the shaft went through the steel surround. The safe was also bolted to the floor via 4 x 12mm coach screws and could be changed for dyna bolts if on concrete. The outside was lined with 10 x 90 TG &V rimu sarking to pretty it up a bit. I built it about 18 yrs ago and still have it. Total cost was less than 10 bucks, perks of being a builder.

I used one of those metal lockers that were so popular in the smoko room in factories. Added a hasp and staple and once secured to the wall, the arms officer was fine with it.

You can make a $50 homebuilt safe or buy a 3k e cat safe.

However,if your away for the weekend and a really determined burglar uses the grinder from your shed then 20 mins and byebye guns.

The better safes will stop the random ferals though.

Just make sure your ammo and bolts are hidden away, rifles no good without em. Trigger locks on in safes works well as well.

For piece of mind I went one of these.

Not a lot of coin for a decent quality safe.  This isn't one of the cheapies you see that you can break into with a screwdriver.

The police have made some new guidelines...

"All firearms licence holders are subject to conditions that require the safe and secure storage of their firearms. There are additional conditions that apply to endorsement holders in relation to pistols, restricted weapons and military style semi-automatic firearms (MSSAs).

The Firearms Secure Storage Guidance document (PDF 732KB) has been created by Police with assistance from the Firearms Community Advisory Forum (FCAF) and is designed to assist firearms licence and endorsement holders and firearms licence applicants understand how the security conditions may be met."

One of the things i have done to my safe after reading a bunch of hunting forums about various issues, is to glue MDF board to the inside of my safe.
This stuff can be cut with a grinder easily as it clogs up a grinder blade damn fast.

I have also installed trigger locks on all my rifles and lockable chamber locks so bolts and ammo wont even go in. Have to destroy the chamber to remove them.

The bolts themselves are hidden elsewhere and if i carked it, I doubt they would be found  easily.
