Anyone had a bit of experience buying tackle in Japan?

Im heading over in April and want to pick up a couple of rods, looking at mc works stick bait and jig rods.

Ive had a look online and have found it pretty hard to find a stockist etc, is there any where i can pre order so i dont miss out or is it just turn up and look through shop and hope for the best?

Any info appreciated. Cheers

If in Tokyo have a look at Sansui in the Shibuya ward.They have 3 shops specializing in different species are a minutes walk of each other. The salt water shop is amazing.

20 min on train to Yokohama is Mogi Pro Shop. This is a literal Aladdin's Cave of high end fishing gear. I highly recommend it,
though Staffs English not so good here.

will look into it mate cheers, sounds like a place i need to check out!

Im just concerned when i arrive if there's no stock of the rod im after then ive missed out completely.

Also whats the deal with import tax and fees when i get back home?

Import taxes. Just tell them you were on a fishing trip.
Yeah rods are a hard one.
Sansui carry a good variety of rods and brands in store.
Mogi pro have good stock of Mc Works you could check their website for stock just before departing.
Lures lines terminal tackle not a problem.
If bringing few rods back pick up a Carmate rod holder for safe airline travel

Yea I was keen to bring back a top water rod and a jig rod but now im having second thoughts, as if i have to pay import tax and the hassle of carrying/worrying about its almost not worth the couple hundred dollars savings.

Mogi shop looks really good, will be grabbing a bit of terminal tackle and stickbaits for sure.

Ill do more research about rods and see what i can find

bring them in as used tackle, i have bought in rods and reels from USA and Europe, sending them is another kettle of fish.

My mrs bought a $700 brand new reel back from Japan last year on the plane.  as far as I know...  no duty or tax....
