Raining fish? maybe not yet, but few nice ones caught. We even had a tickle day before the big blow off Bland Bay.... but most likely a spearfish.

Great weekend with great company at Toots.

Landed a stripey on Thursday from 300 back of the V on a RG1 in lumo, absolutely wicked strike.  Always a buzz to see a fish smashing gear. 1 for 1 on marlin for the weekend.

Friday went 1 for 4 on shortbill spearfish T&R.  Heaps of them around.

Saturday zippo.  Couple of Blues caught in 190-230m....seems the '300' had become '230' by Saturday so they are getting closer.  Stripey also caught inside Knights Saturday early on.

Third year in a row me and my crewmate Trev have nabbed one in first half days trolling so with a record like that think I will quit.

Your marlin fishing is going well, although still early season.
However your spearfish technique could well do with refining. Very lucky I was onboard to wind one in for you which didn't didn't get off. Otherwise would of been 4 nil.
And novel opportunity for me to tag and release one of the best eating fish in the ocean.
Thank you for a great couple days.

No one will ever beat Boulders Spearfish capture. Throw a now very skinny Spearfish back over the transom and hook it in the bill with your favourite lure as it disappears in the wake. If only we had whacked a tag in it after filleting it could have been the first tagged Spearfish re-caught in NZ. Didn't fight much the 2nd time though.

Indeed it is quiet here PT

I went out of Oakura Friday worked the V area and just north in 200M. Found a big area of work ups with all the ingredients but to no avail. Parked up in the area for a couple of hours with two eager to please Kahawai but no takers either.. no SST to report as sounder decided not to tel me that for some unknown reason. Water looks great but not convinced there are alot of fish in the area

Supermodel / reel crazye,

We dropped one on Tuesday in 220m at the V as well..  and after tagging the one on Wed, we had another one up at 150m right at the point of the V as we were heading to mumu for the night.  Thursday morning had another one up on the way to the V in 140m.
Water temp was over 23 deg at times.
Lots of bait down deep just before the V..  but we didnt see much bird life there.

Super model.. was that you drifting with a big yellow float out behind your boat on Friday ?

We had quiet day out off bland bay yesterday. Went north out to about 400 meters and in again to 100 meters before admitting defeat.
Were few caught to south in asmus tournamentyestaday. Today is bit too windy for us.
At least new centre rigger used first time yesterday went really well. But as wife said still didnt catch a fish. Hoping for change of luck next weekend for Nautigals

Sounds like the V is still holding fish then from what PT has reported.
No big yellow float behind us PT
only other boat that came near us was another trailer boat i guess about 220m

ok.
I didnt get too close..  it actually looked like a spear divers float out behind the boat..  my first guess was that they had teased a fish up for a spearo to jump in to shoot..  they were sitting there for half an hour.
