Good Kahawai work-ups on sugar-works side of harbour bridge on Thurs am. I nabbed one for the smoker.

Good luck with your running-in voyage.

It is widely accepted that the inner & upper harbour snapper fishing does not really begin until about mid Jan reaching a peak round about late Feb / early March.

However that is not to say it is not worth a shot for any early arrivals & probably best chance currently in the reefy areas such as Point Chev preferably at dawn or dusk.

Good luck

I fished it yesterday morning for an hour, no bites at all, no sign seen on the sounder.

I headed further out past the islands and to the usual spots and got a feed of up to 43cm no problem.

Headed out to the Motuihe Channel for an after work fish.
Started with straylining with squid and pillies. The little fish were feeding aggressively on the bait. The bigger fish weren't taking the bait.
Switched to softbait after a few hours and found bigger fish hitting the softbait on its way up. Unfortunately, didn't manage to nail any big fish but happy with the pannies we caught.

We did a few sea trials early in week - heaps of kahawaii around first red buoy west of the bridge and surprisingly very good sign on the bottom as well. Worth a look.

Don't think there is any volume of snapper in the harbour just yet. Another few weeks though!!
