Needed a couple of KY to try out the new smoker so put the boat in and shot out straight in front of the bar to the 30 meter mark. After looking around for a few minutes found some sign hanging in mid water. KY me thinks so down goes a 5 inch jerkshad in new penny color. It gets down about 5 meters and stops, bite I think, strike and all I get is a dead weight. Start winding and it comes off ????. This happens 3-4 times and I need a new plan, eventually come up with a soft slow retrieve after the lure is stopped and are rewarded with at least finding out what was down there. Squid would come up with the lure but as soon as gets in sight of the boat would let go. They would not go far if you worked the lure they could be seen following. This went on for about ten minutes until I drifted off the school.

Will make sure I have a squid jig to hand if this happens again.
